📌Flashcard Tip of the Week

🤩How to Customize Your Anki Background

This is way better isn’t it?

I know what you're thinking. Anki's look is kind of... well, boring. When I first started using it, I'd stare at that plain white screen with a few words on each card and wonder, "Is this what I've got to look at for the next few years?" Not the most exciting prospect, right?

But guess what? It doesn't always have to be that way. I was surprised when I found out that not many know about this! With just a few simple steps, you can make your Anki look as cool or as cute as you want. Ready to give your Anki a new look? Let's get started:

1.    Download the Add-on: Go to “Tools -> Add-ons -> Get Add-ons” in Anki, and type in the code "1210908941". After the add-on is installed, you'll need to restart Anki.

2.    Choose Your Image: Now comes the fun part — picking your image! It can be anything that sparks joy for you. Maybe it's a breathtaking landscape from image sites like Pexels, a picture of your adorable pup, a photo of your favorite band or idol, or just a meme :). It's all about making your study experience more enjoyable. After all, who wouldn't prefer these over a dull, white background?

This is fine (my wallpaper few weeks before exam)

3.    Put Your Image in the Folder: Navigate to "Tools -> Customize Background -> Background Gear/Image Folder". Drag your chosen image into this folder so that anki can access your photo and change the background accordingly.

4.    Set Your Image as Background: Go back to "Tools -> Custom Background Gear Icon -> Set Background/Gear(Config)". In the window that pops up, type in the name of your image file. You might also want to set "Reviewer Image" to false if you find the image distracting during reviews.

5.    Experiment! Don't worry if your first image doesn't look quite right. Try out different images until you find one that you like and works well with your text color.

Extra tips: To enhance readability, consider the color of your text when choosing your image. A bright image can offset dark text beautifully, and vice versa. For clearer flashcard text, you might want to reduce the opacity of your image to around 80-90%. There is a drag bar for you to adjust the image opacity on the pop-up panel. You’re very welcome!

Thank you all for reading this far. We're delighted to see you here every two weeks and we hope our posts have been as enjoyable for you to read as they have been for us to write.

Today, I want to share with you all this interesting podcast by Dr. Andrew Huberman (here’s the link). He dives into the relationship between intermittent fasting and our ability to focus. As a neuroscientist, he explained that our brain's ability to process information is linked to our blood glucose levels. It's a fascinating insight into how our diet can impact our cognition.

But there's a twist. Many people who practice intermittent fasting report a heightened sense of mental clarity when they are fasting. It seems that our bodies might switch gears when we're not eating, letting us focus better. So, it's all about striking the right balance - a mix of fasting and having just the right amount of blood glucose can help us stay sharp and focused.

What do you think about this? We'd love to hear your thoughts. Do you have a story, experience, or advice you'd like to share? Don't hesitate to drop us an email at [email protected]. Your input could get featured in our next newsletter!
